She Mountain & She Shan Cathedral
佘山 & 佘山天主教堂

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the tallest TV tower in Asia, and the third in the world with a height of 468 meters. It is a symbol of Shanghai due to its unique style and the height. There are 11 spheres in total along the tower top down. Two of them are pretty large and have a lot of facilities for tourists inside. These spheres are why the tower was named "Pearl Tower".

Confucius Temple

The Confucius Temple of Jia Ding was called "The largest Confucius Temple in East Wu"(东吴第一). During its long history, it saw a lot of enlargements and now it is a very huge temple. Part of the temple is now used as Jia Ding Museum(嘉定博物馆), keeping a lot of artifacts and famous original calligraphy pieces that were written several years ago. There are few Confucius Temples that are kept so well now in China.

St. Ignatius Cathedral

St. Ignatius Cathedral was built in 1898 during Qing Dynasty(清朝). It used to be called "The largest Cathedral in far east", which is now referred to the Cathedral on She Mountain(佘山). The building is Gothic style. The top is 50 meters high. It is quite unique among the skycrapers of Shanghai.

The Methodist Church was built in 1929. It is located right at the center of Shanghai, quite close to East Nan Jing Road(南京东路), People's Square(人民广场). It is not open to public most of the time, only at 7:00, 9:00, 14:00, 19:00 every Sunday for free.

Jing An Temple

During its extremely long history, Jing An Temple has been very important among all the Buddha Temples in China. A lot of famous monks lived here and a lot of buddhism activities were held here. The district where it is in -- Jing An District, was named to this temple. And the road where it is at -- West Nan Jing Road, was also called Jing An Road(静安路) for a long time.

In Taoism, there is a city god for each city. So in a lot of places of China there is a Temple of the City God. Although it is a pretty "common" temple, the one in Shanghai is very famous. The reason is that it has a long history - built in 1403 during Ming Dynasty(明朝), and around temple has been a huge mart for more than several hundred years.

Long Hua Temple

Long Hua Temple is the largest Buddhist Temple in Shanghai. It is said that it has a history of more than 1700 years. Most of its buildings, however, were built in Qing Dynasty(清朝) a few hundred years ago.

Long Hua Pagoda
龙华塔

Long Hua Pagoda sits right next to the Long Hua Temple(龙华寺). They were both built in Song Dynasty(宋朝) more than a thousand years ago. The pagoda is tall and slim. Its height is 40 meters. It is called the crown of the pagodas in Shanghai. Due to its age, people are usually not allowed to get into the pagoda.
