Performance Art going hot in Shanghai Metro

Most Chinese tend to be a little traditional and conservative. So performance art was seldom seen in China. Shanghai was not an exception. However, recently a great deal of performance art has been seen in Shanghai metro.

In early May 2008, some one dressed like the "Super Man"(超人) was seen on Metro No.1. Usually such dressing would not be seen in public in Shanghai. Several people took his pictures and put them on Internet. The pictures roused a lot of discussions. But most were just speculations. The best answer to the it would be performance art.

A few months later, A man in a giraffe mask was seen in Metro and a lot of other public places. For a few days, he showed a lot in public and caught a lot of attention. In the end, the guy behind the mask explained himself on the Internet. He claimed to be a PH.D and was making some short movies.

The "giraffeman" only appeared for a few days. But more and more performance art has been found in Shanghai Metro later. "Rooster man", "bearman" and even "mummy" have seen on Shanghai Metro. Some people found it quite amusing. Some people disagree with these behaviors. They think that such dressings are quite disturbing to the people around and could be scary. Actually the "mummy" did scare a few girls. And there were also some people who thought the "mummy" disgusting.

The Metro administration said that only people naked or in greesy clothes are not allowed to enter metro. There are no rules against such performance art. Unless they disturb the operation of the metro, the administration will not do anything to them.
