Overall, Golf is not popular in China. Shanghai is not an exception. Most people who play Golf constantly are foreigners. However this does not mean that there are very few options for golfing in Shanghai. Somehow, Golf courses and their memberships have been used as promotion tools of the real estates industry. Although it is another topic, this trend did give us some decent Golf courses to choose. What is bad is the memberships are usually expensive.

Very few Golf courses are located in the downtown. Lots of them are in Qing Pu District (青浦区) or Jia Ding District (嘉定区). Some are in Pu Dong (浦东).

Silport Golf Club (36 holes) (旭宝高尔夫俱乐部)

Although Silport Gold Club is quite far from urban Shanghai, acutally out of Shanghai, it is liked and praised by lots of people who have been here. The reason probably is because of its well-maintained course and their well-above-Shanghai-average services. The prices here are decent. And Thursday is their Golf&Ladies day. 18 holes for 560RMB. And they would even provide shuttle bus for free from Gu Bei (古北) area on Thursday if you make an reservation earlier.

Tomson Golf Course (18 holes) (汤臣高尔夫球场)

It is one of the few that are really close to the urban Shanghai. It was built in 1997 and since 2004 it holds BMW Asian Open each year. If you don't want to travel far for Golfing, this seems to be the only choice. Overall its a nice course so can not be a bad choise. But it is expensive here and the service seems to be a little lousy.

Hong Qiao Golf Club (18 holes) (虹桥高尔夫俱乐部)

Another Golf course that is really close to urban Shanghai. And they open during nights. These two almost unique characteristics make this Golf course a really good choice for Golfing, despite that their services are not even close to being good.

Sun Island Golf Course (36 holes) (太阳岛高尔夫球场)

The Sun Island is a small piece of land surrounded by rivers in Qing Pu District. The island is a famous resort that has a lot of entertainment facilities, with the Golf course as its major attraction. The whole island is a beautiful sight and the Golf course is well maintained. A very good option to spend a weekend!

As the only Links Golf course in Shanghai, and designed by "The Golden Bear" Jack Nicklaus himself, this Golf Course is definitely should not be neglected!

She Shan Golf Course (18 holes) (佘山高尔夫俱乐部)

The Golf course has held four HSBC Champions, during which Tigher Woods participated in two but won neither. Located at one of the best tourism attractions -- She Mountain(佘山), the Golf course is a really beautiful and refreshing. However it is only open to members.
